Despite a steady decline in armed conflict since the end of the Cold War, the recent past has seen a proliferation in conflicts once more. These modern conflicts signal the erosion of international norms and a widening political divide between previously amicable states. Deepening global and regional rivalries, and the exploitation of local grievances by radical non-state actors, are further fuelling these conflicts. How should the international community respond to the changing nature of conflict? And how should current methods of conflict prevention and resolution be adapted to meet these changing circumstances?
Mr Jean-Marie Guéhenno, President and Chief Executive Officer of the International Crisis Group, will join Mr Sebastian von Einsiedel, Director of the UNU Centre for Policy Research, for a conversation on the evolution of modern conflicts within a changing geopolitical landscape, and if the international community has the right tools to prevent and respond to them.
